A Chronology of Old Hickory, Tennessee (1759-1988) This chronology is the results of William L. Farris to record historical events and changes that have affected the lives of people living in Old Hickory. Mr. Farris served as Commissioner of the Old Hickory Utility District from 1958 to 1974. In compiling this chronology, it was his intent to encourage an interest in Old Hickory history and add new events as they occur. Over seventy photographs and additional historical events have been added to enhance the original work. This chronological listing of events is a partial list of incidents and changes that have affected the lives of people living in Old Hickory Village. The data has been compiled from many sources and interviews. Sources of printed material include Rayon Yarns, Old Hickory Record, Cellophane Flashes, Old Hickory News, History of Old Hickory by Marie Tootle, Presbyterians of Old Hickory by Spencer Murray, Old Hickory United Methodist Church by Blanche Latimer, Tennessee Blue Book, personal scrap books and journals, and many other sources.
