Madison, TN Age 88 November 25, 2011 Born in Dickson on June 16, 1923, he attended school in Dickson and Old Hickory. During World War II, he served as a gunner's mate aboard the USS Yorktown. Upon discharge, he obtained a law degree from Cumberland University. He was a practicing attorney in Madison for 52 years. Preceded in death by his parents, Zoe Gillum and Louie Hill; wife, Mary O'Brien Hill. Survived by children, Mary Hill Burton (Wes) of Nashville, Harold Anthony Hill of Chattanooga, and James Joseph Hill of Madison; grandchildren, Harold Anthony Hill II and Misty Brooke Hill of Chattanooga plus a host of cousins and great-nieces and nephews. Jim was never seen without a hat, was a consummate joke teller, had a passion for jazz and horse racing, and was a participant in the early years of the Nashville music scene. He had a quick wit to the end. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1225 Gallatin Rd., Madison, TN 37115, Monday at 10:30 a.m. with visitation with the family 1 hour prior to the service. Interment at Middle Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery. Honorary Pallbearers: Jack Redden and friends at Maybelle Carter Retirement Center.
