DuPont High School Alumni Association

Welcome

We hope your visit brings back pleasant memories of your years at DuPont High.

The DuPont High School Alumni Association was formed in 1978 to foster fellowship and mutual benefits among its members, and to award scholarships to high school graduates entering a college or university. Our members include individuals who attended DuPont High in Old Hickory and DuPont Senior High in Hermitage from its beginning in 1928 until its closing in 1986.
In 2000, the Association was incorporated in the State of Tennessee as a not-for-profit corporation. New bylaws were adopted and an application was filed with the IRS for recognition of exemption under Section 501(c)(3). In 2001, the Association was determined to be a publicly supported organization by the IRS. This designation allows all contributions to the Association and Scholarship Fund to be tax deductible by the donor.

DuPont High School was organized in Old Hickory in 1926 as a two-year high school with three teachers and sixty-three pupils, and was housed in the DuPont Grammar School building. A third year was added in 1927 and a senior year in 1928. The first graduating class was the class of 1929. In 1930, a new high school building located at 2001 Hadley Avenue (now Old Hickory Blvd.) was constructed. In November 1967, the high school building was completely destroyed by fire. In the fall of 1969 a Senior High School, retaining the DuPont High name, was completed on Tyler Drive in Hermitage. Today, the Tyler school is a Middle School and the DuPont-Hadley Middle School is located at the original Hadley Avenue location.

The Alumni Association honored three graduates who have “made their alma mater proud.” At the August reunion, the Distinguished Alumni Award was presented in memory of Martha Ann Smith Pippin, Class of 1946, Jimmy Rager, Class of 1952, and Terry Price, Class of 1975.
Also, the Association honored a faculty member who made special contributions to the success of DuPont High School. The Distinguished Faculty Award was presented to Bobby Brown (Class of 1961) who taught at DuPont from 1973 to 1986.

Each month, we try to profile an alum who has been recommended for his or her activities, accomplishments and/or contributions.
If you have someone you would like to recommend, send us the information and why you think they should be "Alumni of the Month."

ALMA MATER
On the city's eastern border, Reared against the sky,
Proudly stands our Alma Mater as the years roll by.
